Brad Koettel – Team Captain
As the resident diabetic in the group, Brad Koettel has unfortunately taken the role as Team Captain. At the ripe old age of 29 Brad was diagnosed with Diabetes after an odd accident on a golf course. It’s a long story… and really not that great, but it landed him in the doctors office looking at all kinds of tests. Once they finally determined it was Diabetes, Brad was immediately sent away to see a Dietitian, an Endocronologist, and his parents and friends to pass the news.
If you know Brad, you’ll know that he’s taken this with “a grain of salt.” With the encouragement of his sister and family, they launched this Walk Team and have been focused on raising money to help find a cure ever since.
Gary & Jose Koettel – Team Parents
Gary and Jose are Brads parents… and are the best parents in the world hands down. They went to many of the initial doctors visits trying to understand what was going on and how they can help. They have been a tremendous support for Brad and the team… and he can never thank them enough. From Sugar Free Cakes on his birthday to helping him keep on his diet at every turn… without Mom and Dad there is a good chance Brad wouldn’t be here today.
Jeff Koettel
Jeff is Brad older brother… and has also been a great support structure for Brad during this time. Jeff was forced to let Brad move in for awhile, and althought he probably doesn’t know it… his support was very critical while Brad was “sick.” Many nights Jeff would wake up and find Brad sleeping on the couch with 1/2 an Orange Juice still sitting next to him as Brad tried to figure out what level of medication was best for him… and Jeff was there to make sure he was ok. He’s been a great support.
Allison & Jeff Reed
Allison is Brad’s little sister, and Jeff is her husband. Allison was the driving force behind us making a team in the first place, and her experience with some of her friends that was diabetic scared us all hard enough to start taking better care of ourselves… thanks. Jeff on the other hand is the inspiration behind “DUCK Fiabetes” as a team name. 1/2 way through the walk in 2007, Jeff looked at Brad and make a joke about the team name… and well it stuck. Thanks Jeff for the motivation.
Tiffany Lamb
Tiffany has been a fantastic addition to our team. Her motivation on helping us get individuals excited, and her dedication to this years team will surely equate to our fantastic success this year. The girl has an unending amount of energy and excitement… and just talking to her about how she wants to get involved will for sure get you motivated as well. Thanks for helping bring some new blood to the team Tiffany… I can’t wait to get into the full swing with your help!
